Contractors State License Board Reminds C-16 Fire Protection Contractors About Required Certification** The Contractors State License Board (CSLB) wishes to provide a crucial reminder aimed at C-16 Fire Protection contractors along with their employees.
It is imperative for C-16 license qualifiers and journey-level personnel involved in the installation or repair of water-based fire protection systems for commercial buildings or multi-family dwellings to obtain a Fire Sprinkler Fitter Certification. In addition, apprentices and trainees working under a C-16 contractor are required to secure a Fire Sprinkler Fitter Registration.
C-16 licensees and their team members who neglect to acquire this necessary certification or registration prior to engaging in fire protection installations or repairs may be subject to disciplinary measures from the CSLB.
It is important to note that this certification does not pertain to C-16 contractors who operate on residential properties, specifically one and two-family homes. For further information regarding the Fire Sprinkler Fitter Certification as well as the Registration requirements, please visit the Automatic Fire Extinguishing Systems page found on the Office of the State Fire Marshal’s website at Alternatively, you can reach out to the office directly via email at
